Inspection questions.

  • What does the thermal inspection report contain?

A georeferenced fault map, panel-level severity classification, and a prioritised repair list.

In detail: a georeferenced thermal map of your entire site, panel-level fault classification (nominal, warm anomaly, hot for priority repair), top-priority repair recommendations with temperature delta readings, and a performance impact summary. All reports comply with IEC TS 62446-3:2017. Delivered digitally within 10-14 days of the flight.

  • What types of faults does thermal imaging detect?

Hotspots, bypass diode failures, shading losses, string open circuits, soiling patterns, and cell-level defects that are invisible to the naked eye and undetectable by string-level inverter monitoring. These are the faults that cause the most significant and sustained yield losses.

  • Does the system need to go offline for the inspection?

No. The inspection is performed in flight during normal operating hours. We require daylight and at least 200 W/m2 of irradiance. The site continues generating throughout the inspection.

  • How long does an inspection take?

A single-day flight covers most commercial sites up to around 10,000 panels. Larger sites may require two days. We confirm the number of inspection days upfront, and the day rate is fixed at R7,500 regardless of panel count within the tier.

  • Why is your pricing a flat day rate and not per panel?

A flat day rate is cheaper than per-panel pricing for most commercial sites.

Most competitors charge per panel, which can exceed R20,000 for larger sites. Our flat day rate of R7,500 means the more panels you have on one site, the lower your effective cost per panel. Use the instant estimate tool on the homepage to see your site-specific price in seconds.

  • What certifications does your pilot and equipment hold?

Our pilot holds a SACAA Remote Pilot Licence (RPL) and Kleen Up Solar operates under a SACAA Remote Operator Certificate (ROC). All inspections use IEC TS 62446-3:2017 compliant hardware and methodology. Reports are accepted by insurers and lenders.

Cleaning questions.

  • Why do I need to clean my solar panels?

Dust, sap, bird droppings, and pollution accumulate on panel glass and block sunlight. The heavier the soiling, the steeper the yield loss. In worst cases, dirty cells drag down clean cells in the same string. Energy from well-performing cells gets wasted absorbing losses from the soiled ones.

  • What are the efficiency gains from cleaning?

Based on customer feedback, we have seen efficiency improvements ranging from 10% to 40%, depending on how dirty the panels were before cleaning.

  • Doesn’t rain wash my panels?

No. Like a car, rain can remove some loose dirt, but for a proper clean, a more thorough scrub is required to remove grime, bird droppings, and mineral deposits.

  • Why do you use filtered water?

Tap water contains minerals that, after drying, form limescale and stain deposits on your panel glass. This decreases energy production and can damage panels through hotspots and corrosion. We use mineral-free filtered water to eliminate this risk.

  • How often should I clean my panels?

Optimal cleaning frequency depends on your location and environment. We are seeing more sites where more frequent cleaning delivers a clear return on investment. Contact us about the right frequency for your system.

  • How long does the cleaning process take for large solar arrays?

The cleaning time depends on the size of the system and its location. We can currently clean up to 2,000 panels per day, ensuring efficient service to minimise energy generation losses.

  • Will cleaning disrupt our daily operations?

No. Our cleaning service is designed to be minimally disruptive. We can schedule cleanings during off-peak hours or weekends to ensure your business operations continue smoothly.

  • Will cleaning damage the panels or void warranties?

No. Our cleaning process uses soft brushes and purified water. Our methods comply with manufacturer guidelines, so panel warranties are not affected.
